Postural Education

Postural Education

Posture refers to how we habitually hold our bodies both in static positions and during movement. Contrary to the common belief that posture is static, it is actually dynamic and can change throughout the day. Frequent movement and position changes are beneficial as they help keep our tissues stretched and nourished with a good blood supply. At Ataraxia, our posture education program includes a thorough evaluation of both sitting and standing postures. This evaluation helps us determine the most appropriate treatment interventions and educational strategies. Our posture education also includes ergonomic recommendations for desk height, keyboard type and position, and chair type and adjustments. These adjustments are crucial for setting up an efficient work environment, reducing strain, and promoting proper posture during activities that require prolonged sitting.

The same principles apply to standing posture, especially for those who need to stand for extended periods for work or leisure. We recommend alternating positions when possible, and with the availability of standing desks, this has become more feasible. Our guidance helps patients incorporate these practices into their daily routines to prevent discomfort and improve overall posture.

At Ataraxia, we treat the whole person. While our tailored home exercise programs and specialized manual therapies are vital, integrating proper posture and positioning into daily life is key to preventing the recurrence of pain. Our holistic approach ensures that patients receive comprehensive care that addresses both immediate concerns and long-term health.
